This Beetle pattern was first shown to me when I was in Tasmania fishing the rivers & lakes a few years ago, by a good friend. It had taken 10's of fish over there at a time of year when not very many were being caught. The fly's secret is in it's colours & body material. Most of the time I gel it up as the body accepts the gel extremely well. I will often use it as a searching pattern as it always seems to bring up fish. In Tassie the red tag has always been a must have fly and the only variation that I tie is a pink tag.

In Victoria the size is the only thing I change. The material comes in rusty brown & pearl which I also use for other patterns, but the peacock lends itself to looking like a Gum Beetle the best.
