Montana Stonefly Nymph

The Montana Nymph is an easy Pattern to Tie. Method

1/ Start at the eye and wind thread back to the bend of the hook.Tie in a bunch of tail material.

2/ Tie in the black chenille and wind the thread to about midway along the hook shank, wind the black chenille up to this point and tie off leave the excess chenille untouched.

3/ Tie in a suitable black hackle, then the chenille for the thorax,Wind the thorax up to the eye leaving enough room to tie off materials and form a head.

4/ Palmer the hackle up to the head and tie off

5/ Lay the remaining black chenille over the back of the thorax and hackles forming a wingcase, tie off and trim.

6/ Form the head and tie off.

The Montana Nymph was voted by Englands "Trout Fisherman"Magazine as one of its top 5 flies(April 1997). In W.A. it fishes well in the Brunswick and the Donelly Rivers. The floro green version works well in the Impoundments. Cheers Stan Weatherill
