Kate and Marek at Red Lodge were excellent hosts. Despite Marek only being a beginner fly fisher, he and his family looked after me brilliantly. I love them both and Cameron and Chloe are my favourite children. I hope their start at school has been good fun. I didn’t bother to go to Jackson Hole and the lower Snake as the tourist traffic was enormous in this area.

Three million people enter the park in August and the crowds are unbearable. When we go back next year, it will be at the end in July and we will take the trip up the Bitch Creek over the Tetons to Jackson and back up to the north east entrance.

Nineteen days of bliss all came to an end the next day I caught the plane from Billings to Denver and then to San Francisco to Sydney to Melbourne. If you are interested in joining a party to do a similar trip next year, then give us a call!

This has been a necessarily brief extract from my diary. There were dozens of funny and interesting incidents I don’t have time to recount here. Above all I was inspired by the rivers and the landscape and as a result I feel a more complete person.

It is definitely a “thing to do before you die” and we look forward to showing others who may be able to get away during our winter (July) next year. I have researched the best of the region, and believe me, it is fantastic. I crossed the Yellowstone for the last time on the way to the airport. I arrived home on opening day. Maybe some more later.
